The Brisbane Chamber's Scholarship Recognition Program is unique in several ways. First, few Chambers of Commerce have such a program at all and none we know of awards such large amounts of money. Second, it recognizes scholarship and is not merely financial aid because we want to emphasis the importance of being a good high schoo student. Third, eligibility is unique in that to qualify a person must be able to answer, "yes", to one of the following questions:

  • Have you been a Brisbane resident for at least 6 months prior to making application for the Scholarship Recognition Program?
  • Are you, or your parent/guardian a member of the Brisbane Chamber of Commerce with membership in good standing for at least 6 months prior to making application for the Scholarship Recognition Program?
  • Are you, or your parent/guardian an employee of a company which employs you to work in Brisbane and which holds membership in the Brisbane Chamber of Commerce and has held such membership in good standing for at least 6 months prior to your making application for the Scholarship Recognition Program?
  • Are you the dependent of a Brisbane employer or employee as described in the previous question?

High school seniors who can answer affirmatively to any of the above questions are eligible as long as they will be a college or trade school student in the 2010-2011 school year following the award.

We want you to take a serious look at these eligibility criteria. This program is not just for Brisbane residents, but open to the entire Brisbane community, both residential and business components, including direct dependents. That means you may be eligible, may become eligible, and/or probably know someone who is or will be. This past year awards ranged from $1,000 to $3,000. Wouldn't a check like that be nice at such an expensive time of life as the college years? Share this information with others who might be eligible and think about making an application yourself if you meet the eligibility requirements. Awards will be made at our Annual Awards Reception.

Now there is the other side of the coin--literally. Where does the money come from that we give to deserving scholars? Private contributions from businesses and individuals is the answer. No tax monies are used to fund these gifts nor are membership dues utilized to support these awards. Periodically we put out information about the program which includes the request for contributions to keep the program going. For more than a decade we have managed to award scholarships to deserving students. Last year we distributed $20,500. We would like to do more, but that is a question of availability of funding. If you would like to help, we thank you. Please make your tax deductible donation payable to the Scholarship Recognition Program and send it to the following:
